The Best Local Ice Cream in Houston Texas
Ice Cream isn’t all created equal.
Anyone who’s had a small-batch quality scoop knows this to be true. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of our favorites in Houston that hold true to our locally sourced community building standards.
Check them all out and let us know your favorite flavor!
Fat Cat Creamery
Heights, Garden Oaks
Fat Cat Creamery is one of our favorite spots for unique small batch ice cream. They always have new flavors and dairy free options too!
Check out the order ahead menu on their website for all the ways you can enjoy your scoops. There’s also brownies, cookies, merch and more!
Cloud 10 Creamery
Heights, Midtown, Upper Kirby
Cloud10 Creamery has been serving up hand crafted ice cream and sorbets in Houston for over 10 years! They’ve expanded to be available online and in multiple grocers across Texas!
If you want to please a crowd, grab an ice box pies from one of their scoop shops for your next gathering – it won’t dissapoint!
Honey Child’s Sweet Creams
Urban Harvest Farmer’s Market
We’ve been a fan of Honey Child’s Sweet Creams ever since spotting them at the Urban Harvest Farmer’s Market years ago.
This small batch frozen custards are truly farm-to-cup, including ingredients from local farms and creameries.
We love the Texas Sheet Cake flavor available year-round, but Peach Cobbler is the best seasonal flavor to beat the Houston summer heat!
Chocolate Wasted Ice Cream
East End
Chocolate Wasted Ice Cream specializes in made to order small batch ice cream available for delivery or pick up at the East End Market on Sundays from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm!
They source natural and local ingredients for all their flavors (you’ve gotta try the Honey Vanilla Walnut!) and are one of the only food vendors with a permanent spot on the Navigation Esplanade at the East End Market.
These guys are all about spreading the local love and we are here for it!
Sweet Bribery
Heights
Sweet Bribery has so many yummy flavors including vegan and gluten free options. You can get it scooped into a handmade waffle cone, but we their floats and adult sips (like a glass of bubbly with a scoop of sorbet) are a great spin on the traditional!
Stop by for a scoop on a stroll down 19th street or pick up one of their ice cream cakes for your next party.
Sweet Cup Gelato
Sweet Cup offers handmade gelato, sorbets, and yogurts onsite from scratch. You can find them at multiple grocery stores across Texas!
Underground Creamery
Montrose
Underground Creamery is a small shop on Montrose offering pints for pre-order and pick up.
It started with a guy named Josh who decided he wanted to make his own ice cream after reviewing hundreds of different types and flavors. He opened his own small commercial space and the only way to try his releases is to order them online and pick them up there.
Has anyone been able to try yet? We are waiting for a time when the flavors aren’t all sold out – that must mean it’s awesome!
Flower and Cream
Medical Center
Milk + Sugar Creamery
Montrose
Milk + Sugar is a sweet spot in the Montrose area that makes all of their flavors in house. They pride themselves on their perfect combination of flavor bases and mix ins for the ultimate dessert. We are definite fans of the cereal milk base with everything from fruit loops to frosted flakes!
You can give them a visit at their shop or choose from catering options for a large party. You can even rent out their space for your own event!
Craft Creamery
Montrose
Craft Creamery is an awesome spot serving up rotational options on a weekly basis. They probably have some of the most oddly delicious flavors on this list – we’ve seen tomato tarragon, chicken n waffle, and even a BBQ brisket flavor!
If that doesn’t make you want to give them a try, I don’t know what would.
You can try for yourself at their shop in Montrose, or in locally sourced restaurants across Houston like State Fare and The Pit Room.
Luliet Creamery + Bake Shop
Spring, The Woodlands
HTX NitroCreamery and Bakeshop
Houston Area Markets
HTX NitroCreamery and Bakeshop is in the process of establishing a food truck, but right now you can find them at different markets around town (like the Yale Market, Curb Market, and the Energy Corridor Market).
They have ice cream by the pint, ice cream sandwiches and popsicles in all kind of unique flavors. Check out their Instagram account for their latest updates!
Big Ole Scoop
Houston Area Markets
Big Ole Scoop has ice cream available for pre order or at several market locations around town.
